Apartment living gives you the benefit of neighbors on your side as well as apartments all around you filled with potential new friends. But how exactly do you break the awkwardness to meet your new neighbors? It's tough to be the new guy or girl in the building, and this is an all too common scenario for many renters who have recently moved into a new apartment complex. With just a little confidence you will be able to take advantage of the area around you and potentially create a long-lasting social scene just outside your door. Here are just a few tips to introduce yourself to your neighbors.
- Leave a treat at their door: Bake some yummy sweets and leave them outside your neighbors apartment doors with a note to stop by and say hello! This is a great way to make a first impression and this will hopefully open the door for your neighbors to stop by and chat.
- Start a club: Whether your into movies, books, sports etc. there is more than one option to consider but starting a club within your apartment community is a great way to meet new people. Check with your Property Manager to see if you can hang a flyer in your apartment building's lobby or in the clubhouse/fitness room to gather an impromptu club gathering with your fellow neighbors. You'll meet neighbors with similar interests and you can continue to plan events throughout the year.
- Gather the kids: If you have children, you know that play groups are imperative to acclimating your kids to the new apartment as well as a great way to help them feel more comfortable with the change in location. Hosting a gathering for all of the kids to meet each other is a great way to break the ice with your neighbors.
